ABSTRACT

As plantas medicinais foram os primeiros recursos terapêuticos obtidos pelos povos e há registros do seu uso em todos os momentos da História, por grande parte das civilizações. No Brasil, o uso das plantas medicinais é resultado dos conhecimentos de três populações: indígena, europeia e africana. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo caracterizar a manipulação mensal de um laboratório de fitoterápicos na cidade de Francisco Beltrão, Paraná. Os dados que foram coletados para a presente pesquisa são: número de cápsulas manipuladas mensalmente para cada um dos fitoterápicos, os quais serão obtidos a partir dos relatórios de manipulação de fitoterápicos mensais no ano de 2021 e individuais de cada unidade de saúde, fornecidos pela Secretaria de Saúde. Não havendo acesso a informações de pacientes e tampouco contato com eles. As informações dos relatórios foram tabuladas em planilha a fim de se estabelecer os três principais fitoterápicos manipulados no período preestabelecido. Trata-se de um estudo de campo, exploratório, documental e retrospectivo. Observamos que a média de manipulação foi de 34.029 cápsulas por mês, os fitoterápicos mais manipulados no ano de 2021, foram: Passiflora incarnata (maracujá), Aesculus hippocastanum (castanha da índia) e Curcuma longa. Também foi possível notar que houve um aumento gradual de dispensações após a capacitação dos profissionais, ocorrida entre junho e setembro. Além disso, verificamos que há uma grande diferença na quantidade dispensada por cada farmácia municipal, possivelmente devido ao nível de conhecimento dos profissionais de saúde e se preferem ou não prescrever aos pacientes.


Medicinal plants were the first therapeutic resources obtained by people and there are records of their use at all times of history, by a large part of civilizations. In Brazil, the use of medicinal plants is a result of the knowledge of three populations: indigenous, European and African. The present work aims to characterize the monthly handling of a plant medicine laboratory in the city of Francisco Beltrão, Paraná. The data that were collected for this research are: number of capsules handled monthly for each one of the phytotherapics, which will be obtained from the reports of handling of monthly phytotherapics in the year 2021 and individual of each health unit, provided by the Secretariat of Health. There is no access to patient information and no contact with them. The information in the reports was tabulated into a spreadsheet in order to establish the three main phytotherapics handled in the pre-established period. This is an exploratory, documentary and retrospective field study. We observed that the average handling was 34,029 capsules per month, the most manipulated phytotherapics in the year 2021, were: Passiflora incarnata (passion fruit), Aesculus hippocastanum (chestnut from India) and Curcuma longa. It was also possible to note that there was a gradual increase in dispensations after the training of professionals, which took place between June and September. In addition, we note that there is a big difference in the amount dispensed by each municipal pharmacy, possibly due to the level of knowledge of health professionals and whether or not they prefer to prescribe to patients.


Las plantas médicas fueron los primeros recursos terapéuticos obtenidos por los pueblos y hay registros de su uso en todo momento de la historia, por una gran parte de las civilizaciones. En Brasil, el uso de plantas medicinales es el resultado del conocimiento de tres poblaciones: indígenas, europeos y africanos. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo caracterizar la manipulación mensual de un laboratorio fitoterapéutico en la ciudad de Francisco Beltrão, Paraná. Los datos recogidos para esta investigación son: el número de cápsulas manejadas mensualmente para cada una de las fitoterapias, que se obtendrán de los informes mensuales de manipulación fitoterapéutica en el año 2021 y el individuo de cada unidad de salud, proporcionados por el Departamento de Salud. No hay acceso a la información del paciente ni contacto con ella. La información contenida en los informes se tabuló en una hoja de cálculo para establecer las tres principales fitoterapias manipuladas en el periodo predefinido. Se trata de un estudio de campo, exploratorio, documental y retrospectivo. Observamos que la manipulación media fue de 34.029 cápsulas al mes, las fitoterapias más manipuladas en 2021 fueron: Passiflora incarnata (fruto de la pasión), Aesculus hippocastanum (castaño indio) y Curcuma longa. También es posible señalar que se ha producido un aumento gradual de las dispensaciones después de la capacitación de profesionales, que se llevó a cabo entre junio y septiembre. Además, vemos que existe una enorme diferencia en la cantidad que proporciona cada farmacia municipal, posiblemente debido al nivel de conocimiento de los profesionales de la salud y si prefieren recetarla a los pacientes o no. ABSTRACT

Based on the research literatures of Passiflora incarnata and the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, the paper discussed the traditional Chinese medicinal properties of P. incarnate, so as to provide a theoretical basis for the compatibility and application of P. incarnata. The literature databases of CNKI, Wanfang, VIP, Web of Science, PubMed and Scopus were selected, and the literatures relating to P. incarnata were reviewed to screen out the scientific research literatures with a high credibility, rational design and reliable conclusions. Foreign pharmacopoeia was consulted, and the listed products were summarized. The traditional Chinese medicine properties of P. incarnata were studied based on 32 clinical trials, 66 pharmacological researches, 64 chemical constituents researches as well as the theory of traditional Chinese medicine. It was preliminarily concluded that the medicinal properties of P. incarnata are sweet, cool, and enter heart, liver channels. The function is mainly to calm the heart and tranquilizing the mind, and calm the liver wind. It is used for hyperactivity of liver-Yang, stagnation of liver-Qi, restlessness of mind, depression, nervousness, insomnia. This paper summarized the source, characteristics of natures, tastes and channel tropism, usage and dosage, function indications of P. incarnata, and defined its clear traditional Chinese medicine property, which lays a theoretical foundation for the compatibility and clinical application of P. incarnata and Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

Although the number of prescriptions and dependence on sleeping pills are increasing, the associations with unexpected abnormal behaviors and metabolic diseases caused by the overuse of sleeping pills are not well understood. In particular, such as abnormal eating-behavior and the occurrence of metabolic disorders caused by psychological unstable states are reported. For this reason, herbal medicine, which has not had such side effects in recent years, is attracting attention as an alternative medicine/food for sleeping inducer. We have used ethanol extracts from Passiflora incarnata (PI) to steadily obtain positive effects on sleep and brain microenvironment. However, as mentioned earlier, sleep-inducing efficacy can only be used safely if the behavioral and metabolic abnormalities do not appear.Thus, in this study, we used Phenomaster equipment to continuously monitor the movement, feeding, water consumption, gas changes, etc. in C57BL/6 mice at a dose of 500 mg/kg/day for 5 consecutive days with PI extract group compared with the control group. Before sacrifice, differences in body composition of mice were also compared. Monitoring of 24 h/5 days through the equipment showed no change in PI-treated group in anything except for significant decrease in blood melatonin levels and activity after PI administration. Taken together, the statistically insignificance of any behavioral and metabolic phenomenon produced by repeated treatment of PI are not only expected to have an accurate sleep effect, but are also free of side effects of the prescribed sleeping pills. This study has given us greater confidence in the safety of the PI extracts we use for sleep-inducer.

ABSTRACT

OBJETIVO: validar el método de cuantificación de flavonoides en las tabletas de Passiflora incarnata L., utilizando como patrón quercetina. MÉTODOS: se evaluó la especificidad, linealidad, exactitud, precisión y robustez según las recomendaciones de la USP 30 y el Centro para el Control Estatal de la Calidad de los Medicamentos (CECMED). RESULTADOS: en las condiciones practicadas en este trabajo el método es selectivo; resultó lineal en un rango de 60 a 140 por ciento de concentración de flavonoides. Mostró exactitud y precisión con coeficiente de variación global de 0,67 por ciento. No varió significativamente cuando se modificaron las condiciones de análisis. CONCLUSIONES: el método analítico, en las condiciones practicadas, es fiable y permite obtener resultados apropiados para el uso que se pretende(AU)


INTRODUCTION: to validate the flavonoid quantification method on Passiflora incarnata L. tablets by using quercetine as standard. METHODS: selectivity, linearity, accuracy, precision and robustness were evaluated, using USP 30 and the regulations of the Center for the State Control of Drug Quality (CECMED). RESULTS: under the conditions of this study, the method is selective, linear in a range of 60 to 140 percent of flavonoid concentration. It showed accuracy and precision with global relative standard deviation of 0.67 percent. The results did not significantly vary when the analytical conditions changed. CONCLUSIONS: under the established conditions, this method is reliable and allows obtaining appropriate results for the intended use(AU).

ABSTRACT

Passiflora incarnata is marketed in many countries as a phytomedicine. Even though the directions of most marketed phytomedicines recommend them to be used under medical supervision, reproductive and developmental studies are sparse and not mandatory for regulatory purposes. In this study, a reproductive toxicity evaluation of P. incarnata was conducted in Wistar rats gavaged (30 or 300 mg/kg) during pregnancy and lactation. Moreover, considering that antioxidant properties have been attributed to flavonoids present in the genus Passiflora, it was also evaluated the antioxidant/pro-oxidant balance in the plasma of these dams and the antioxidant potential in an in vitro test. P. incarnata treatment did not influence dams´ body weight as well as reproductive (gestation length, post-implantation loss, litter size, litter weight) and hepatic (albumin, AST, ALT, GGT) parameters. The antioxidant property of P. incarnata was evidenced both in vivo (increase in the total antioxidant plasmatic potential) and in vitro (decrease in neutrophil-induced respiratory burst). The results from the present study indicate that under the experimental conditions evaluated, P. incarnata treatment during gestation and lactation presented antioxidant activity in the absence of maternal reproductive toxicity.


Passiflora incarnata é comercializada em muitos países como fitoterápico. Embora a bula da maioria dos fitoterápicos recomende que eles sejam usados sob supervisão médica, estudos sobre a toxicidade reprodutiva e do desenvolvimento desses produtos são raros e não obrigatórios para fins regulatórios. Neste estudo, realizamos uma avaliação da toxicidade reprodutiva da P. incarnata, administrada a ratas Wistar (30 ou 300 mg/kg, gavagem) durante a gestação e a lactação. Além disso, considerando as propriedades antioxidantes que têm sido atribuídas aos flavonoides presentes no gênero Passiflora, também avaliou-se o equilíbrio antioxidante/pró-oxidante no plasma destas fêmeas e conduziu-se um teste in vitro para avaliar o potencial antioxidante. O tratamento com P. incarnata não influenciou o peso corporal das fêmeas, bem como indicadores de toxicidade reprodutiva (perdas pós-implantação, número de filhotes vivos e peso da ninhada) e os parâmetros de função hepática (albumina, AST, ALT, GGT). A propriedade antioxidante da P. incarnata foi evidenciada tanto in vivo (aumento do potencial antioxidante total plasmático) quanto in vitro (diminuição do burst respiratório em neutrófilos). Os resultados deste estudo indicam que, nas condições experimentais avaliadas, o tratamento com P. incarnata durante a gestação e lactação apresentou efeito antioxidante, na ausência de toxicidade reprodutiva materna.

ABSTRACT

Este trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver e validar metodologia analítica por espectrofotometria no UV para a quantificação de flavonóides totais, expressos em vitexina, em cápsulas contendo extrato seco de Passiflora incarnata L. O método foi desenvolvido a partir da metodologia de doseamento de flavonóides totais descrita na monografia do extrato seco de P. incarnata L, disponível na Farmacopeia Britânica (2010). A validação da metodologia analítica de doseamento foi realizada de acordo com a Anvisa RE N° 899/2003 e diretrizes da International Conference on Harmonization. O método mostrou-se seletivo, pois não houve interferência dos adjuvantes na leitura das absorbâncias nas soluções analisadas. Apresentou coeficiente de correlação linear (r) de 0,9999, confirmando a linearidade do método. Os valores de desvio padrão relativo, obtidos tanto para precisão, nos níveis de repetibilidade e precisão intermediária, quanto para exatidão não excederam o máximo de 15% determinado nos critérios de aceitação para métodos bioanalíticos, considerando a complexidade da matéria-prima vegetal.


The aim of this study was to develop and validate an analytical method using UV spectrophotometry to determine total flavonoids, expressed in vitexin, in capsules containing a dry extract of Passiflora incarnata L. The analytical method was based on the spectrophotometric assay described in the British Pharmacopoeia (2010), for the dry extract of P. incarnata L. The validation of this method of quantitation was done in accordance with ANVISA resolution 899/2003 and the International Conference on Harmonization guidelines. The method was selective, because there was no interference from additives in the reading of the absorbance of solutions analyzed. It showed a linear regression correlation coefficient (r) of 0.9999, confirming the linearity of the method. The values of relative standard deviation calculated for precision (both repeatability and intermediate precision) and for accuracy did not exceed the maximum of 15% allowed in the acceptance criteria for bioanalytical methods, considering the complexity of the plant raw material.

ABSTRACT

Siparuna guianensis Aubl., Siparunaceae, is used as anxiolytic plants in folk medicine by South-American indians, "caboclos" and river-dwellers. This work focused the evaluation of phenolic composition of hydroethanolic extract of S. guianensis through HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS/MS. The constituents exhibited protonated, deprotonated and sodiated molecules and the MS/MS fragmentation of protonated, deprotonated and sodiated molecules provided product ions with rich structural information. Vicenin-2 (apigenin-6,8-di-C-glucoside) was the main constituent found in S. guianensis together quercetin-3,7-di-O-rhamnoside and kaempferol-3,7di-O-rhamnoside. A commercial extract of Passiflora incarnata (Phytomedicine) was used as surrogate standard and also was analyzed through HPLC-DAD-ESI/ MS/MS, showing flavones C-glycosides as constituents, among them, vicenin-2 and vitexin. The main constituent was vitexin. Flavonols triglycosides was also found in low content in S. guianensis and were tentatively characterized as quercetin-3O-rutinoside-7-O-rhamnoside, quercetin-3-O-pentosyl-pentoside-7-O-rhamnoside and kaempferol-3-O-pentosyl-pentoside-7-O-rhamnoside. Apigenin and kaempferol derivatives had been reported as anxiolytic agents. Flavonoids present in this extract were correlated with flavonoids reported as anxiolytics.

La Passiflora incarnata L. es una especie que se ha utilizado por el hombre con diversos fines. Se estudió el efecto in vitro de un extracto fluido de esta planta sobre los linfocitos de 20 donantes voluntarios de sangre y de 20 enfermos con diagnóstico de inmunodeficiencia celular, mediante la técnica de formación de roseta activa, roseta espontánea y el ultramicrométodo inmunocitoquímico, así como en la función fagocítica de los neutrófilos. No se hallaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre las condiciones experimentales sin pasiflora y con pasiflora, en las técnicas de formación de rosetas ni en la expresión de los marcadores de linfocitos CD2 y CD3. Similares resultados se hallaron con la función fagocítica de los neutrófilos en la misma dilución


Passiflora incarnata L. is a species that has been used by man for various purposes. It was studied the effect in vitro of a fluid extract of this plant on lymphocytes from 20 blood donors and 20 patients with cellular immunodeficiency diagnosis, using the technique of active rosette formation, and spontaneous rosette immunocytochemical ultramicromethod and in the phagocytic function of neutrophils. We found no statistically relevant differences between experimental conditions with and without Passiflora, neither in the rosette formation techniques or the expression of lymphocyte markers CD2 and CD3. Similar results were found with the phagocytic function of neutrophils in the same dilution

ABSTRACT

Avaliaram-se os efeitos do extrato de maracujá veiculado na dieta (0, 50, 100 e 200mg kg-1) sobre o consumo de alimento, o ganho em peso e os níveis de glicose e cortisol plasmático de juvenis de tilápias do Nilo (87,0±6,6g). Ao final do experimento (28 dias), os peixes foram eutanasiados para remoção do fígado, visando à avaliação da área citoplasmática, contagem de células e verificação dos estoques de glicogênio hepático. Os dados foram submetidos à ANOVA unidirecional, comparando-se as médias pelo Teste de Tukey (P<0,05), com posterior estudo de regressão, buscando estabelecer as curvas das áreas citoplasmáticas, em função das diferentes doses do extrato. A inclusão do extrato na dieta não afetou o consumo de alimento e o crescimento e todos os peixes apresentaram aumento da glicose e redução do cortisol plasmático, porém sem diferenças entre os tratamentos. As curvas de regressão indicaram aumento quadrático da área citoplasmática com a elevação da doses do extrato, principalmente para 100mg kg-1, resultando em uma curva dose-resposta em forma de "U" invertido. O aumento da área do citoplasma decorreu de um acúmulo de glicogênio hepático, conforme comprovado pela prova da amilase salivar. Concluiu-se que o extrato de maracujá pode ser fornecido na dieta de juvenis de tilápia, sem prejudicar o consumo alimentar e o crescimento dos animais e que o produto altera a morfometria dos hepatócitos, sugerindo a atividade de flavonóides sobre o metabolismo de carboidratos.


The effects of passion fruit extract (0, 50, 100 and 200mg kg-1) on food consumption, growth and glucose levels and plasma cortisol were investigated in juvenile Nile tilapia (87.0±6.6g). After 28 days, fish were killed and the liver was removed for study of cytoplasm area, cell count and verification of hepatic glycogen stores. The data were subjected to one-way ANOVA comparing the means by Tukey´s test (P<0.05), with further study to establish the regression curves of cytoplasm areas related to different doses of the extract. The inclusion of the extract in the diet did not affect food consumption and growth, and all fish showed increased glucose and reduced plasma cortisol, without differences between treatments. The cytoplasm area increased quadratically as the doses increased, mainly for 100mg kg-1, resulting in an inverted "U" dose-response curve. The increase of cytoplasm area resulted from hepatic glycogen storage, as confirmed by salivary amylase. It was concluded that passion fruit extract can be delivered in the diet of juvenile tilapia, without impairing of food consumption and growth, and that the product affects the hepatocytes morphometry, suggesting flavonoids activity on carbohydrate metabolism.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of soil characteristics (pH, macro- and micro-nutrients), environmental factors (temperature, humidity, period of the year and time of day of collection) and meteorological conditions (rain, sun, cloud and cloud/rain) on the flavonoid content of leaves of Passiflora incarnata L., Passifloraceae. The total flavonoid contents of leaf samples harvested from plants cultivated or collected under different conditions were quantified by high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV/PAD). Chemometric treatment of the data by principal component (PCA) and hierarchic cluster analyses (HCA) showed that the samples did not present a specific classification in relation to the environmental and soil variables studied, and that the environmental variables were not significant in describing the data set. However, the levels of the elements Fe, B and Cu present in the soil showed an inverse correlation with the total flavonoid contents of the leaves of P. incarnata.


O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os efeitos do solo (pH, macro e micronutrientes), fatores ambientais (temperatura, umidade, época do ano e período da coleta) e condições meteorológicas (chuva, sol, nublado, nublado com chuva) no teor de flavonoides das folhas de Passiflora incarnata L. (Passifloraceae), através do tratamento quimiométrico dos dados por PCA (análise de componentes principais) e HCA (análise hierárquica de agrupamentos). Os flavonoides totais foram quantificados por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência-detecção por ultravioleta (CLAE-UV/DAD). As análises por PCA e HCA mostraram que as amostras de Passiflora não apresentam uma classificação específica em relação às variáveis estudadas e que as variáveis do meio ambiente não são relevantes para descrever o modelo estudado, porém os elementos do solo Fe, B e Cu demonstraram correlação inversa à concentração dos flavonoides totais.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCCIÓN: resulta de interés establecer una tecnología propia para la elaboración y el establecimiento de especificaciones de calidad en diversas formulaciones sólidas de extractos secos de Passiflora incarnata L. (pasiflora), Matricaria recutita L. (manzanilla) y Morinda citrifolia L. (noni). OBJETIVOS: realizar los estudios fitoquímicos y analizar parámetros de control de calidad de los extractos secos de Passiflora incarnata L., Matricaria recutita L. y Morinda citrifolia L. MÉTODOS: para el estudio fitoquímico por cromatografía en capa delgada se emplearon técnicas simples, rápidas, selectivas y con equipamiento mínimo para determinados compuestos. Para el análisis de los parámetros de calidad, se aplicaron los ensayos descritos en la Norma Ramal del Ministerio de Salud Pública (NRSP 309). RESULTADOS: se comprobó la presencia de flavonoides, aminoácidos, aminas, azúcares y oligosacaridos en los 3 extractos secos estudiados. En el de M. citrifolia se observó además la presencia de compuestos antraquinónicos y terpenos, mientras que en M. recutita se identificó la presencia de coumarinas. CONCLUSIONES: los resultados obtenidos demostraron que los 3 extractos se encuentran dentro de los límites establecidos para su empleo como principio activo de origen natural.


INTRODUCTION: it is interesting to develop our own technology to work out and to set quality specifications for different solid formulations of Passiflora incarnata L. ((passiflora), Maricaria recutita L. (chamomile) and Morinda citrifolia L. (noni) dry extracts. OBJECTIVES: to conduct phytochemical studies on and to examine the quality control parameters of Passiflora incarnata L. Maricaria recutita L. and Morinda citrifolia L. (noni) dry extracts. METHODS: for the phytochemical study based on thin layer chromatography, quick, simple and selective techniques were used, and minimal amount of equipment was employed for certain compounds. The analysis of the quality control parameters included the assays described in the Branch Standard of the Ministry of Public Health known as NRSP 309. RESULTS: flavonoids, aminoacids, amines, sugars and oligosaccharides were found in the three dry extracts under study. Antraquninone compounds and terpens were observed in the M. citrifolia extract whereas coumarins were present in the M. recutita leaf extract. CONCLUSIONS: the results proved that the three extracts are within the set limits for their use as natural active principle.

ABSTRACT

O presente estudo teve por objetivo avaliar em modelos animais, os possíveis efeitos do produto fitoterápico CPV (extrato seco de Crataegus oxyacantha, Passiflora incarnata e Valeriana officinalis) quanto à sua ação ansiolítica avaliada no modelo do labirinto em cruz elevado (LCE). Outros efeitos como neuroléptico (bloqueio da estereotipia por apomorfina), analgésico (testes: placa quente; retirada da cauda e contorções abdominais), bem como sobre a memória (esquiva passiva) também foram considerados. O extrato CPV (430 e 860 mg/kg) apresentou um efeito ansiolítico (aumento do número de entradas nos braços abertos do LCE) em ratos e uma tendência de efeito amnésico para ambas as doses (430 e 860 mg/kg), embora menos intenso quando comparado com o diazepam (1,5 mg/kg). O extrato não apresentou efeitos neuroléptico ou analgésico.


The aim of the present study was to evaluate the central effects of the phytotherapeutic product-CPV (dry extract of Crataegus oxyacantha, Passiflora incarnata and Valeriana officinalis) in animals models. In order to investigate the psychopharmacological profile of CPV extract, an evaluation toward anxiolytic effect of this extract on the elevated plus-maze (EPM) was carried out. Other effects such as neuroleptic (blockade of the stereotyped behavior induced by apomorphine), analgesic (hot plate; acetic acid writhing and tail-flick tests) and on the memory (passive avoidance test) were also analyzed. CPV extract (430 and 860 mg/ kg) presented an anxiolytic effect on rats (increased the number of entries into the open arms in the EPM) and, furthermore, a tendency of slight amnesic effect for the doses (430 and 860 mg/kg), but less intense when compared to diazepam (1.5 mg/kg). The extract did not show neuroleptic or analgesic effects.

O Pasalix® é um produto fitoterápico contendo uma associação de três plantas medicinais: Passiflora incarnata, Salix alba e Crataegus oxyacantha. Sua principal indicação é para o tratamento da ansiedade e insônia. O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar a toxicologia clínica dessa formulação em voluntários saudáveis. Para isso realizou-se um ensaio clínico não aleatório, aberto, com 24 voluntários sadios do sexo masculino, que receberam ambulatorialmente dois (2) comprimidos revestidos do fitoterápico duas vezes ao dia, durante 28 dias ininterruptos. Os voluntários foram incluídos no estudo somente quando considerados saudáveis após avaliação clínica, exame físico e exames laboratoriais que antecederam o estudo. A avaliação laboratorial incluiu análise hematológica, bioquímica e sorológica. A avaliação clínica e laboratorial foi repetida após a 1ª, 2ª, 3ª e 4ª semanas de tratamento e 7 dias após a última administração. O Pasalix® foi bem tolerado pelos 24 voluntários não apresentando eventos adversos graves. Os exames clínicos, eletrocardiográficos e laboratoriais efetuados antes, durante e após o ensaio não evidenciaram sinais de toxicidade nos diversos órgãos e sistemas avaliados, confirmando a segurança da preparação para utilização em ensaios de eficácia terapêutica.


Pasalix® is an herbal medicine containing a combination of three medicinal plants: Passiflora incarnata, Salix alba and Crataegus oxyacantha. Its main indication is to treat anxiety and insomnia. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical toxicology of that formulation in healthy volunteers. For this, a non-randomized open clinical trial was conducted with 24 healthy male volunteers, who received two (2) coated tablets of the herbal medicine twice a day for 28 uninterrupted days. The volunteers were included in the study only when considered healthy after clinical assessment, physical examination and laboratory tests which preceded the study. The laboratory tests included: hematological, biochemical and serological analysis. The clinical and laboratory evaluation was repeated after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks of the treatment and 7 days after the last administration. Pasalix® was well tolerated by the 24 volunteers, and it has showed no serious adverse events. The clinical, laboratory, and electrocardiographic data assessed before, during and after the test showed no signals of toxicity in various organs and systems evaluated, confirming the safety of the preparation for use in trials of therapeutic efficacy.
